This project in Dartford involved the complete installation of two neighbouring block paved driveways, transforming the front of both properties with a clean, durable and coordinated finish. The existing surfaces were worn, uneven and in need of a full upgrade, so the aim was to create practical off-road parking with improved strength, better drainage and a much more attractive appearance.
Project Details
Excavation & Ground Preparation
The project began with the removal of the existing driveway surfaces, including old tarmac, paving and loose materials. The areas were excavated to the correct depth to allow for a strong new foundation, with all waste and debris cleared from site as the preparation work progressed.
Once the driveways were opened up, the ground was levelled and shaped to create the correct falls for surface water drainage. This stage is essential on a driveway of this size, helping to prevent standing water and ensuring the finished paving performs well over time.
A high-quality MOT Type 1 sub-base was then installed across both driveway areas and compacted in layers. This created a firm and stable base suitable for regular vehicle use.
Edging & Driveway Installation
New edging blocks were installed to define each driveway and separate the different sections neatly. The edging also helps retain the paving and gives the overall installation a strong, structured finish.
A sharp sand bedding layer was then laid and screeded to provide a smooth, level surface ready for the block paving.
The main driveway areas were finished using dark grey block paving laid in a herringbone pattern, giving the surface excellent strength and a smart modern look. Contrasting borders were added to frame each driveway, with lighter and red-toned blocks used to create clear definition between the two properties.
One of the driveways also included a decorative diamond feature within the paved area, adding a bespoke detail and making the overall design stand out from a standard installation.
Finishing Touches
Once all blocks were laid, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints to lock the paving securely in place. The driveways were then compacted to strengthen the surface and ensure the blocks settled evenly.
The final result was left clean, level and ready for use, with both properties benefiting from fresh, low-maintenance off-road parking.

The completed double driveway has completely transformed the front of these Dartford properties. The new block paving provides a much cleaner and more practical surface, while the contrasting borders and decorative detailing give the installation a high-quality finish.
